Whidbey Island Orchestra is proud to present "From Fiddles To Fiesta," a summer celebration featuring strings, flute, piano, and percussion throughout the Americas. From the fiddle music of Appalachia and the Rio Grande all the way to the rhythms of Mexico and the tangos of Argentina, we promise a foot-stompin', dance-in-your-seat good time for all.
The concert will be presented at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) on Friday, August 27, 2021
A group of twelve string players from the Whidbey Island Orchestra performed four Mozart string Quartets, including “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” at WICA on March 27. Other than Djangofest, this was the first live music performance on the WICA main stage since the lockdown.
Music director, players, and the audience were enthusiastic about the experience. Cynthia said, “The balance was tremendously good. I really did feel thrilled myself hearing the sound coming from the players. It was great.” A player recalled, “One day I arrived late (to rehearsal) and I remember thinking, ‘I can’t believe this is us playing.’ Because it was so good.” An audience member noted, “The energy in the audience was so supportive and enthusiastic. People were so thrilled, it was electric. They didn’t want to leave.”
Cynthia and the musicians agreed that the excellent acoustics in the WICA space allowed musicians to hear, listen, and adjust to each other, forming a tight-knit group. “We went from amateurs to professionals in one fell swoop”, said Cynthia.
